Snowdrop Flowers

Snowdrop (Galanthus nivalis) is a maximum of 25 cm from the narcissus bulb family (Amaryllidaceae). The flowers have their own flower stalk and hang from the top of the stem downward. A flower has six flower wrapping them, the outer and the inner three elongated three inverted heart-shaped. Long, narrow leaves are bluish green.

There are the Flora of Belgium, Luxembourg, northern France and adjacent areas two distinct varieties:

• Galanthus nivalis var. nivalis, which only the inner three petals green or yellow spot on the end have.

• Galanthus nivalis var. scharlockii that all pages have a green or yellow spot.

Snowdrops are blooming can be found from January to April.

The flower appears white but is actually colorless. A fine pinched petals appears to be crystal clear, because the air bubbles between the leaf cells are then pushes away. It is this air that the incident light is reflected in all directions, by which man perceives it as white.
